Travelling to school in Soma town continues to be a daily challenge for students from rural communities, despite improvements to the main road. With no local transport system and distances of up to 20km to the nearest school, access to further education is difficult for most young people.
Kaira Konko is looking help overcome these challenges by implementing a local community bicycle scheme, in tandem with bicycle maintenance classes and access to tools and equipment at the Scout Centre, with a view to running a sustainable programme in future.
